Fires involving liquids with flash points below 32^oC cannot always be extinguished by high velocity water spray system, and in such cases medium velocity water sprayers giving medium water drop sizes are employed. Water is sprayed directly over the protected surface, preventing dangerous temperature rise / distortion. Medium velocity water spray also provides effective control by cooling and extinguishing, thus preventing fire from spreading to adjacent areas and from causing loss or damage to other areas.

Medium velocity water spray nozzles are provided with the piping in the protected area. This acts, as detection cum discharge line, and water is always stored in the pipeline at the stipulated pressure. Incase of fire emergency the quartzoid bulbs in the medium velocity spray nozzle breaks and water is discharged to the protected area.
